Movie: Tango Bar (1935)

Directed by John Reinhardt.
Gardel plays a horse racing enthusiast who spends his remaining fortune opening a tango bar in Spain. On his journey by ship, he performs “Lejana tierra mía” with a group of Spanish immigrants, as well as “Por una cabeza”, “Los ojos de mi moza”, and “Arrabal amargo”. The final entry in Gardel’s Paramount series, Tango Bar was filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York. As noted by film historian Domingo Di Núbila, these international productions played a pivotal role in popularizing Argentine sound cinema.
The movie is in Spanish with English subtitles.
