Movie: Cuesta abajo (1934)

Directed by Louis Gasnier With Carlos Gardel, Mona Maris, Vicente Padula, and others
In this romantic drama, Gardel is torn between the innocent Rosa and a femme fatale, brilliantly portrayed by Mona Maris. He sings two essential tangos: “Cuesta abajo” and “Mi Buenos Aires querido”. The film premiered in August 1934 at the Campoamor Theater in New York to tremendous acclaim. When it opened the following month in Buenos Aires at the Cine Monumental, the reception — though Gardel was not present — was equally fervent. A Paramount production filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York.
