Movie: El día que me quieras (1935)

Directed by John Reinhardt. With Carlos Gardel, Rosita Moreno, Tito Lusiardo, José Luis Tortosa, and others
A sweeping melodrama in which Gardel’s beloved, played by Rosita Moreno, dies — giving rise to one of his most profound performances: “Sus ojos se cerraron”, co-written with Alfredo Le Pera. He also sings “Volver”, “Guitarra mía”, and the film’s title song. A curious historical note: a young Astor Piazzolla appears briefly in the film as a newspaper boy. Paramount production shot at Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York.
