Are We Approaching Fascist Times? Anti-rights Movements and How to Resist Them

Join SKOK for a public talk at Litteraturhuset where we will discuss the alarming rise in anti-rights movements and politics, and strategies to practice democratic defense in troubled times.
Over the past decade, anti-gender politics have consolidated into a powerful transnational political formation shaping struggles over feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, academic freedom, and democratic governance. Associate Professor Kari Jegerstedt (SKOK) will lead a discussion together with Elisabeth Lund Engebretsen (UiS), Lívia Gonçalves Buzolin (FGV Sao Paulo Law School), Matthew Gichochi (CMI) and Siri Gloppen (CMI) to investigate practices of resistance and discuss their relevance not as a singular or unified reaction but as a heterogeneous field of strategies. The discussion will take into account how to rethink feminist strategies, solidarities, and democratic practices to best navigate our troubled times.
